This annual battle for border supremacy between the Athletic Departments at the University of Minnesota and the University of Wisconsin enters its sixth year of existence. The two institutions made an adjustment to the scoring system prior to the 2005-06 season by awarding points to the school which finishes higher at the Big Ten championship in 11 sports in which the Badgers and Golden Gophers don't have a head-to-head competition. Gophers Named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars
Golden Gophers posted a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the 2009-10 academic year, pacing the 46 University of Minnesota student-athletes to receive the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. Gophers who garnered 4.0’s for the year were All-America swimmer Kaylee Jamison, Addison Demer (men’s track), Mike Torchia (men’s track), Ben Kuznia (football), Katie Ohm (women’s basketball) and Kathryn Ritter (women’s track/cross country). Gophers Climb to Fifth in Directors’ Cup
